Cook and Crawl is a class project I did for IGME 220: Game Design and Development I at the Rochester Institute of Technology. The class was essentially about learning design concepts for games while developing an early version of a card, board, or analog game with a team. In the first weeks of the class, every student had the opportunity to pitch a game concept to the rest of the class, and five of those pitches were chosen to be worked on in teams. My pitch was Cook and Crawl, a dungeon-crawling co-op game where you play as a chef and work with others to find a way out of the dungeon. It was one of the chosen concepts, and a team of five, including me, was assigned to the game.
Being my original idea, a lot of my contributions to the project were in improving the original concept for the game in a way that would be fun but achievable within the time limit of our class. Due to my experience with leadership and management, I also naturally became a project lead of sorts for the team; I communicated with the team as a whole consistently and made sure everyone's work was finished on time. With each iteration of the game, I also rewrote the rules of the game based on player feedback and improvements we made.
While the idea changed a lot from the original concept, I am very proud of what this game is. To this day, I still have a lot of fun playing it with friends, and I often get questions regarding the continuation of development on the game. The team and I are considering picking up work on it again, as we have many ideas we didn't get to implement in the class.
I do not have a website for the project, but if you wish to learn more about the game or even play it, the button link on this page directs you to a zip download. This zip file comes with the rules, the design doc, and printable game components.
